Hot Chips & Chicken Salt - Red Rooster & McDonalds

Having fun with a birthday treat earlier this year :)
I have been meaning to blog about this for a while because last year we went to Red Rooster for hot chips and, after it taking a very long time for them to find the ingredients of their hot chips and chicken salt it then turned out that it had gluten in it. So we went back to our safety zone of McDonalds fries (download the food sensitivity table or look at the ingredients list)

However, I thought I would check the nutritional information again and looks like they no longer have any allergens in them. So whether or not the information I got first was right or not, you can now know that their chips and chicken salt are free of gluten, dairy, egg, soy, peanuts, treenuts and all other main allergens. Nice to know that a more solid potato chip is available.

Read more about hot chips and which other ones have allergens here.

  1. Hi Libby, not relevant to this post, but I thought you might like to know about a book I borrowed from the library today - 4 ingredients cookbook, gluten free. It is by Kim McCosker and Rachael Bermingham. It has over 400 recipes (though I think it is pushing it to refer to "baked onions" as a recipe!)

It probably has stacks of other stuff your kids can't eat (like dairy and/or nuts), but there might be something that could be adapted).

  2. Thanks Julie - I actually own it and another one as well :) I saw it at the shops last year and grabbed it. Unfortunately it is still pretty hard to find a good recipe in it that is free of the other bits (and when there's only 4 ingredients anyway, it's hard to take one out or have a good substitute!). But I should maybe have another read through. It's good to have when gluten-free people come over and you want something to cook for them.
There's a good cookbook that I just bought that I will be reviewing soon after I've cooked a few recipes. It seems like a winner for kids with multiple allergies.
